The use of preservatives is required to prevent product damage caused by microorganisms and to protect the product from contamination. Microbial contamination of products can lead to serious problems such as irritation and infections.
To ensure that our products are protected from contamination, we’ve developed safe and effective, broad spectrum preservative blends, specific for each pH and product type.
· Sodium benzoate: Derived from benzoic acid; naturally occurs in fruits and roots; inhibits microbial growth and spoilage.
· Potassium sorbate: Derived unsaturated fatty acids; naturally occurring; non-irritating stabilizer.
Addressing your concern with Sodium Benzoate: Benzene is naturally present in a variety of fruits and vegetables.
That said, we understand there is some concern with the preservatives Sodium Benzoate and Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) used in conjunction in certain formulations generating varying concentrations of benzene.
However, it is important to understand there are levels of acceptability. Sodium Benzoate can be used safely at concentrations of up to 5% (or 5 mg/kg).
We have confirmed with our product development team that the amount of Sodium Benzoate we use is within permissible limits.
