How to Layer Your Andalou Skin Care
Figuring out what order to use your skincare products in isn't always self explanatory. Whether you have a 3 step routine or a 10 step routine, here is everything you need to know about layering your Andalou skincare.
Step 1: Cleanser
Our skin comes into contact with a variety of environmental stressors like dirt, pollutants, and bacteria every day, which is why it’s important to cleanse your face at least once a day to maintain healthy skin. For best results, cleanse morning and night.
Note: if you want to try double cleansing, go in first with an oil-based cleanser like our Deep Hydration Nourishing Cleansing Balm to effectively remove any stubborn makeup, sunscreen, or dirt from the day before washing with your regular cleanser.
Our recommendations:
- For dry skin: Deep Hydration Revitalizing Cleansing Gel
- For dull skin: Brightening Meyer Lemon Creamy Cleanser
- For oily skin: Clear Skin Citrus Kombucha Cleansing Gel
- For sensitive skin: Sensitive 1000 Roses Cleansing Foam
- For mature skin: Age Defying Apricot Probiotic Cleansing Milk
- For normal/undernourished skin: CannaCell Cleansing Foam

Here’s where you can get creative
Any toners, serums, or treatments can be added here, after your cleanser. A good rule of thumb is to apply products from thinnest to thickest consistencies. That usually means toner, then serum before moisturizer. If that sounds like too much on your plate, no worries! This is not an essential step, especially if you’re using targeted products in the rest of your routine. Feel free to go straight to your moisturizer.
Step 2: Face Mask and/or Exfoliator
Any face masks can be done after cleansing so you have a clean slate for your mask to sink in better. Exfoliators are also great to use here to slough off dead skin cells and prep your skin for the rest of your routine. We recommend using an exfoliator or face mask just a couple times per week so your skin doesn't get irritated.
Note: If you're using sleeping masks, you can wait till the end of the routine to use these.
Our recommendations:
- For dull/rough skin: Brightening Pumpkin Honey Glycolic Mask
- For congested skin: CannaCell Detox Mask
- For oily skin: Clear Skin Lemon Sugar Scrub
- For undernourished skin: CannaCell Glow Mask
- For dry skin: Deep Hydration Instant Hydrate & Refresh Sheet Mask
- For sensitive skin: 1000 Roses Instant Soothe & Smooth Sheet Mask
- For aging skin: Age Defying Bioactive Berry Fruit Enzyme Mask
Step 3: Toner
Toners are great for locking in hydration and balancing your skin's delicate pH to prep the skin for the rest of the routine. A targeted toner can also help boost the effects of your other products and bring you closer to your skincare goals.
Our recommendations:
- For dull skin: Brightening Clementine + C Illuminating Toner
- For dry skin: CannaCell Hydrating Toner
- For oily skin: Clear Skin Willow Bark Pure Pore Toner
- For sensitive skin: Sensitive 1000 Roses Floral Toner
- For aging skin: Age Defying Blossom + Leaf Toning Refresher
Step 4: Serums
Serums are crucial for targeting your specific skincare concerns, as they deliver potent active ingredients to the skin. Think of them like a booster for your routine.
Our recommendations:
- For dull or uneven skin tones: Brightening Turmeric + C Enlighten Serum
- For dry or dehydrated skin: Deep Hydration Life Boosting Serum
- For sensitive skin needing soothing: 1000 Roses Fresh + Dewy 2 in 1 Serum
- For undernourished skin: CannaCell Pressed Serum or CannaCell Facial Serum

Step 5: Moisturize
Keeping your skin moisturized is essential, no matter what your skin type is. Using a moisturizer helps your skin maintain essential hydration levels and prevent the loss of water from the skin, boosting your natural protective skin barrier and supplying your skin with essential nutrients. Moisturizer is especially helpful as we age and our skin loses its ability to retain moisture.
Our recommendations:
- For dry or dehydrated skin: Deep Hydration Multi-Correcting Cream
- For oily skin: Clear Skin Acai + Kombucha Oil-Free Moisturizer or Clear Skin Argan Stem Cell Recovery Cream
- For sensitive skin: Sensitive 1000 Roses Beautiful Day Cream during the day and Sensitive 1000 Roses Heavenly Night Cream at night
- For aging skin: Age Defying Rejuvenating Plant-Based Retinol Alternative Cream
- For dull or uneven skin tones: Brightening Probiotic + C Renewal Cream and Brightening Purple Carrot + C Luminous Night Cream
- For normal or undernourished skin: CannaCell Happy Day Cream and CannaCell Dreamy Night Cream

Step 6: Eye Creams
Your eye cream can go before or after your moisturizer, based on your preference. One good rule of thumb to follow is to apply products in the order of thickness with lighter products going on before heavier products. So, if your eye cream is lighter than your moisturizer, you're probably better off applying that before you moisturize.
Our recommendations:
- For dry or dehydrated skin: Deep Hydration Reviving Eye Cream
- For dark circles: Brightening Luminous Eye Serum
- For puffiness: CannaCell D.Puff Eye Cream
- For aging: Age Defying Rejuvenating Eye Balm
- For sensitive skin: Sensitive 1000 Roses Eye Revive Contour Gel
Step 7: Facial Oils
Facial oils are great to add into your routine to lock in moisture and deliver extra nourishment to the skin. Your skin is naturally made up of oils, and when your skin is stripped of its natural oils, dullness, dehydration, fine lines, and irritation can occur. Adding in a nourishing facial oil might be exactly what your skin is craving.
Our recommendations:
- For dry, sensitive or irritated skin: 1000 Roses Soothing Squalane Oil
- For undernourished and dull skin: CannaCell Beauty Oil
Step 8: Sleeping Masks (PM) or SPF (AM)
During the day, the most important finishing step of your routine is your SPF to protect your skin from sun damage. Unprotected exposure to UV rays not only putting you at risk of skin cancer, but also accelerates aging of your skin cells, leading to things like fine lines, wrinkles, dullness, sun spots, and hyperpigmentation.
Our recommendations:
- For normal or undernourished skin: CannaCell Sun Buddy SPF 30
- For dull or uneven skin tones: Brightening Vitamin C BB Beauty Balm Sheer Tint SPF 30
- For oily and blemish-prone skin: Clear Skin Argan Stem Cell BB Benefit Balm Un-Tinted SPF 30
- For aging skin: Age Defying Ultra Sheer Daily Defense Facial Lotion SPF 18 (untinted) or Age Defying Perfecting BB Beauty Balm Natural Tint SPF 30 (tinted)
- For sensitive skin: Sensitive 1000 Roses Daily Shade Facial Lotion SPF 18 (untinted) or Sensitive 1000 Roses CC Color + Correct Sheer Beige or Sheer Tan (tinted)
